It is easy to lose stuff or settings in Second Life.

The Signature series solve the problem in this way:

Command HUD v5.00.00 RC and above:
  1. After setup or transfer, a red dot will appear on your HUD to the right of the Lulu logo .
  2. When you click that red dot, it will either tell you to:
    • press the "save" button (which detaches your HUD) and re-wear, or
    • relog (if you're using the Restrained Life viewer and are locked).
    • Warning: wait for half a minute (or more if the sim is slow) before re-wearing! Otherwise you might lose stuff!

Note 1: If you are wearing any restraints (e.g. gags or cuffs), they will not detach immediately upon HUD detach (as in the past). Instead, you will receive a warning if the HUD is not re-worn in 45 seconds, and if it is still not worn after 1 minute 15 seconds, only then the restraints will detach.
Note 2: You can now detach your HUD to save even if you're locked (so long as you're not locked and using the Restrained Life viewer).
Note 3: You can delaying saving your stats till you've finished with all the changes.
Note 4: You can even ignore the red dot and not save, if you feel that Second Life has been running smooth lately. When you log out, your data will be saved (if all goes well). However, be aware that if you do crash or get disconnected, you will revert to the last save or logout.

Changes from v.4: Changes to owner list, gender, command channels, etc. will no longer trigger the red dot save button. These are now automatically saved and will be automatically recovered when you relog after a crash or disconnect from SL.

Command HUD v4.10.00 RC and above:

Similar to HUD v5.00.00, but the red dot will also appear for important changes like owner list, command channel, gender, etc. These are auto-saved in the v.5.

Command HUD v4.0614 RC and below:
  1. Once the HUD detects an important change (like completion of setup, or new owner, or re-sizing/re-positioning), it will start a 1-minute (or more) countdown, which will appear on the your screen. During this time, you are advised not to tp (which is a common cause of disconnection) nor detach nor logout.
Important: If SL is having trouble (inventory issues, huge lags, communication problems, slowdown), it is best to wait a lot longer than one minute before trying to detach, as your settings will be lost if you detach too soon. I'd wait even fifteen minutes or more if it's particularly bad.
  2. At the end of the countdown, you will receive a blue menu asking you to *save your settings* by either:
  • detaching the HUD (if you're not locked). Simply detach, wait a few moments (say, 30 seconds to give the sim tiem to save the data), then re-wear ; or
  • relogging (if you are locked).

When you re-wear or relog, you will not receive any confirmation that your data has been saved - as there is no way a script can tell that (HUD v4.10 onwards will tell you that the save process is completed, but there is no guarantee that it was successful). The only way to tell is to manually check whether the last change you did (e.g. owner change) is still preserved on your HUD when you wear it again. And there is a small chance that if the Second Life servers are under too much strain at the time, your changes would be lost, and not saved.

So if you check and the change is still there, congrats, the save was successful. This means that if all goes well, the next time you crash or disconnect while in this session, the HUD will revert to this state. Now you see why it's important to save your settings as you go along.
