My HUD just "found one or more dead scripts" or "one or more script have had a Script run-time error". What's happening?

Either you started a smart reset, or your HUD did a self-diagnostics in the background and found that one or more scripts have "died".

Essentially, the SL environment is not very stable, and scripts do leak memory in them, even if generous allowances have been made. When that happens, the scripts simply die - they don't work and the working data in them is lost. As expected, this affects your HUD's functions.

Lulu's "smart reset" will revive only the dead scripts, and attempt to restore the lost data. To complete the fix though, you need to follow further menu instructions to detach the HUD and re-wear it.

The "smart reset" overcomes the problems of the default "reset all" solution as done from the SL menu:

• in the default SL "reset all", all scripts (even those that weren't originally dead) are reset and thus all data is lost;
  
• you don't need to drop the HUD on the ground (SL has been known to eat stuff you drop on the ground - doesn't happen often, but hey, dying scripts aren't usually a good sign SL is behaving well at the time).
  

If you have HUD v4.x, SL sim server software updates might have broken Smart Reset. If your HUD still doesn't work after re-attaching, then you need to get an HUD replacement.

If you have HUD v.5, you're ok. Smart Reset 2.0 works fine. More info about Smart Reset 2.0 (available in HUD v.5 and above) here.
